Toys

Cockatiels are very friendly pets and can be very fun to have, but you must first know how to care for it. Cockatiels need toys. And they need different kinds of toys. One can help trim its beak and its nails, while another toy can just be for the fun of it. I have a key that they like to play with. They love the shiny, silver key. And you can't forget about toys with bells on them. Sound is very important to birds, and is another essential in their life. You just can't have a pet cockatiel in the quietest home ever, but you can't have it in the loudest neighborhood, either. Cockatiels aren't picky about their toys. They will just pick something up and start chewing on it. This is normal, but just make sure of what you give them to play with is safe for them. The last thing you need is a hurt cockatiel.

Open the cage every once in a while...

Yep, you must let your cockatiel have some fun outside of his or her cage. How would you feel if you had to stare your surroundings in a cage with bars covering the view. You have to open the cage and let them see the world without the bars covering their sight. But make sure that your cockatiel is trained to humans, as you don't want it to go crazy everytime a person passes by. You can also decide wether to clip their wings or not. When you clip their wings, you cut off your bird's primary feathers. This ensures that the bird cannot fly at all. I do this to all my birds because when they aren't able to fly, they depend on me to take them places. This is also a great method to teach your bird to the human touch. You can look up online on how to clip a cockatiel's wings, but some pet supermarkets offer bird wing clipping at around $3.00 a bird. This is a very good price, as the wing clipping will last about 3-4 months.
